Traveling by slow boat will allow you to experience the beautiful natural scenery and lifestyle of the communities along the Mekong River up close.
Day 1: Chiang Mai to Huay Xai (Chiang Khong):
1. Depart from Chiang Mai in the morning to travel to Chiang Khong (about a 5-6 hour drive).
2. Cross the Mekong River from Chiang Khong to Huay Xai, Laos (a short crossing).
3. Spe nd the first night in Huay Xai or arrange the boat journey for the next day.
Day 2:Huay Xai to Pakbeng:
1. Start the slow boat journey from Huay Xai in the morning. The boat will travel down the Mekong River to Pakbeng (approximately a 6-7 hour journey).
2. Arrive in Pakbeng in the evening and stay overnight in Pakbeng.
Day 3: Pakbeng to Luang Prabang:
1. Continue the slow boat journey from Pakbeng to Luang Prabang in the morning (about a 6-7 hour journey).
2: Arrive in Luang Prabang in the afternoon or evening.
