Description
Discover the wildlife of Nairobi National Park on a guided tour. Visit the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, the Giraffe Center, and the Bomas of Kenya cultural center.
On your arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be met by company representatives for meet and greet services. Alternatively, you can be picked up from your Nairobi hotel early in the morning. Depart for the Nairobi National Park, established in 1946. It is 117 square km that comprises migratory wild animals. Within a short time, see how unique this special reserve is. Have an opportunity to see lion, rhino, giraffe, buffalo, impala, topi, cheetah, hyena, zebra, and many more species of wild birds. The annual East Africa migration of wildebeest and zebra moves over the wide-open grassy plains, past acacia bush, and through the corridor during the seasonal rain.
At midmorning, continue to the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, a heartwarming place to be. The pioneer founders are David and Daphne Sheldrick. Mr. David Sheldrick is a celebrated and fearless former game warden, well recognized for his past wildlife conservation work.
The Center now under the successful management of their daughters caters for orphaned elephant and rhino calves rescued and salvaged from every part of the country. These young elephants upon recovery are reintegrated back into a conducive natural habitat where they are slowly introduced to adoptive herds. Meet the dedicated team in charge of this delicate project. Enjoy watching baby elephants feeding and later tackling each other playfully in a splashy mud bath. A lecture on individual elephant history is offered by a local guide.
The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust now prides itself as the most successful orphan elephant rescue and rehabilitation program in the world.
Proceed to the Giraffe Center, established to protect the endangered Rothschild giraffe that was facing extinction. In 1979, the Giraffe Center, a nature sanctuary was opened as a rescue and rehabilitation center for the Rothschild Giraffe species.
Today the center offers tourists an exciting opportunity to watch these animals and also to learn about the conservation efforts from a dedicated team. Break for lunch at a local restaurant.
After lunch, continue with a drive to the cultural center Bomas of Kenya, situated in the Nairobi suburbs of Langata. A Boma is a Swahili word meaning a traditional homestead.
They are set as a museum to represent Kenya‘s 40 ethnic groups and to express their cultures and traditions. Programs based on the traditional dances of the different tribes are presented with brilliant performances. The dancers finish with a lively display of acrobatics and tumbling. After the show ends you will be transferred to the airport or hotel for your further staycation in Nairobi.
