Mt Longonot National Park is located 90km from Nairobi city on the floor of the Great Rift Valley. Mt Longonot park is a popular park for hiking and mountain climbing that takes less time to hike.
Leave Nairobi early morning and drive to the floor of the Great Rift Valley where one of the dormant volcanic mountains in this region lies, magnificently retaining the conical shape of almost all volcanoes with a splendid crater. After the clearance at the park gate, start the hike up the mountain which takes an hour and a half to the top and then make a circuit that takes you two and a half to three hours depending on whether you approach it clock-wise or anti-clockwise. Lunch is on the mountain and this is wonderfully coupled with the sweeping views of the surrounding areas including Lake Naivasha, Nairobi, the structure of the valley itself, a geothermal power station and many more. The peak is at 2,786 m and should not be underrated.
After lunch continue the circuit and descend to the gate for a transfer back to n Nairobi arriving late afternoon.
