Day tour to explore Jerash, the "Pompeii of the East" which houses some of the best preserved Roman ruins, rivaling the ones in Rome and the only Arabic castle in Jordan, Ajloun.
8:00am meet with the driver at the 7th, parking lot. A 1 hour drive towards the north to explore Jerash, the "Pompeii of the East" which houses some of the best preserved Roman ruins, rivaling the ones in Rome. Spend most of the day wandering the cardo—its spectacular colonnaded street—and admiring the South Theatre, Temple of Zeus, Hadrian's Arch, the Artemis Temple, and the Nymphaeum. The city's 14 churches date back to the Byzantine era and are filled with fine mosaics. (the tour takes approximately 3 hours)
12:30 arrive arrive at Um Khalil Restaurant in Jerash for a mouthwatering buffet lunch
Not too far away is the only Arabic castle in Jordan, Ajloun (45 min drive). It is perched on a hilltop and has fantastic views of the surrounding countryside. Originally constructed in 1184 AD, it was destroyed and rebuilt over the centuries following numerous wars and earthquakes. (the tour takes approximately 1 hour)
4:30pm start heading back to Amman where the trip ends.
