Depart from the port of Naples and travel by bus to the ancient city of Pompeii. Buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD, the archeological site provides an extraordinary glimpse into life during the Roman Empire with its remains of houses, shops and brothels.
Rediscovered by the Spanish military engineer, Rocque Joaquin de Alcubierre during the excavations of 1748, the work revealed many intact buildings and wall paintings that the King of Naples, Charles of Bourbon took great interest in to reinforce the political and cultural power of Naples.
Then, travel to Vesuvius by bus and discover the volcano that buried Pompeii when the mountain ejected clouds of ash and stones at 1.5 million tons per second to a height of 33 kilometers (20.5 miles), releasing 100,000 times the thermal energy of the bombing of Hiroshima. Before you reach the volcano you will enjoy a wine tasting in a typical chalet on Vesuvius. After the tour, the bus will take you back to Naples as per the established timetable.
