Description
Discover the history of the street that has been the favorite spot for the "struscio" of Neapolitans. Enjoy a coffee at the most great bar in Naples and visit the beautiful Toledo metro station.
Immerse yourself in the vibrant culture of Naples with this unique walking tour along Via Toledo, one of the city's most famous streets. For over 500 years, it has been the preferred spot for the "struscio", a term in the Neapolitan dialect that goes back to the ancient rituals of Holy Week: during this period, between religious events and processions, it was forbidden to go out on horseback or with carriages, one could only walk slowly, ‘strusciare’, along Via Toledo, the street chosen for these cults. Later, the term came to define the habit that nobles had of walking along the street, showing off their wealth.
We start from the Gambrinus café, to begin the tour on the right foot, where a good coffee cannot be missed in one of the most beautiful and historic bars in Naples. We will start our walk by crossing the Umberto I Gallery, emblem of late 19th-century Liberty architecture. Continuing along Via Toledo, we will stop to enjoy an excellent sfogliatella. The route will then take us into the network of Spanish quarters, until we reach Largo Maradona, now become the Mecca of countless fans, and not only, of the famous Argentine footballer. We will then conclude the tour by visiting the beautiful Toledo metro station, defined as the most beautiful in Europe.
