Palazzo Colonna, one of the oldest private palaces of Rome, was built in the fourteenth century by the Colonna family, who still resides there. Cardinal Girolamo I commissioned the Galleria.
Palazzo Colonna is one of the oldest and largest private palaces of Rome. Built in the fourteenth century by the Colonna family, who still resides there.
Inside there is the Galleria Colonna, commissioned in the mid 1600s by Cardinal Girolamo I Colonna and his nephew Lorenzo Onofrio Colonna. The original project was by architect Antonio del Grande, it was then integrated by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Johan Paul Schor and Carlo Fontana in the last decade of the seventeenth century. Here you can admire Bronzino, Guercino, Salvator Rosa, Jacopo Tintoretto, Francesco Salviati, Guido Reni, Giovanni Lanfranco and many others.
