Country: Italy
Duration:
03:30 hours
Description
Take the 30 minute train from Rome to Frascati, heart of the Lazio wine region. Visit an iconic family-owned winery, taste fantastic local wines, explore the lovely town of Frascati, and savor a delicious lunch at a traditional trattoria.
Your guide will meet you as you arrive at Frascati train station. Once introductions are made, your local guide and sommelier will lead you on a walking tour of the shops and botteghe in Frascati, tasting local specialties all along the way including revered local delicacies such as roasted pork (porchetta), biscotti just out of the antique wood fired oven, and jug wine from the oldest bakery and tavern in town. Oldest meaning hundreds of years old yet still adhering to the age old traditions that render their products unlike any other. Be sure to leave plenty of room as the best is yet to come!
Transportation will be provided to the Old Frascati Vineyard, a historic and renowned family-owned winery that has been producing wine in the region for seven generations. Explore the grounds together, wandering amongst hand-tended vines, then look inside the 'secret' underground laboratories used to hide persecuted families during world war 2 and used today to store wine.
Follow with a guided tasting of each of the winery's products, including Frascati Superiore DOCG white wine, Vagnolo IGP red wine, and Frascati DOC White Wine. Savor the family's extra virgin olive oils paired with a selection of delicious breads.
Bid farewell to the winery and swap vineyards for lunch in a hand-picked trattoria featuring the very best cured meats, cheeses, oils, breads, and pasta, and of course - more wine. After lunch and an espresso, wave goodbye to your hosts and head back to Rome.
