Sarnath is a small town about 10 km away from the main city of Varanasi. Lord Buddha had given his first sermon here about 2500 years ago.
India is the only country in the world which offered four big religions to the world, means four different schools of thoughts. Buddhism is one of those. It was founddd by Gautam Buddha in 6th century BC. Sarnath isone one of the four sacred places on the Earthfor Buddhists where Buddha preached his very first sermon to five desciples.
Today, this place is dotted with several Buddhist temples built by different countries who follow Buddhism and an archaeological park along with a small site museum which exhibits some of the most beautiful, marvellous examples of art in human history. The national emblem of India is one of them. Travellers enjoy the serenity, tranquility of this little town and visiting those few places is a complete contrast to the main town of Varanasi.
