Description
Sarnath is the place where lord Buddha preached his first sermon. Its around 15 kilometer away from the city center which gives you sometime to relax from the choas of Varanasi
Sarnath has several monuments to see including some Stupas, Monastries, Temple , Museum.
There are some ruined monuments existing from thousand years back, Dhamekh Stupa where Buddha taught about his Dhamma which was built by king Ashoka.
The Mulgandh Kuti Vihar is another example of Gupta period representing the place where Buddha used to meditate.
Then there is Dharmarajika Stupa where relics of Buddha was brough after his death.
There is a big Musuem built in 1910 by British which has several different types of statues
