Description
Travel to Jaipur by car on a full-day trip from Delhi. Known as the Pink City of Rajasthan, Jaipur is a destination that features colorful bazaars and stunning palaces and forts. You’ll find shopping bargains in handicrafts, fabrics, gems, and jewelry.
Jaipur, at approximately 300 kilometers from Delhi, is a 6-hour drive and can be visited on a full-day trip. The most important sight of Jaipur, the Amber Fort, is located on the Delhi-Jaipur highway, just outside Jaipur.
Stop for breakfast along the way, at the Rajasthan tourism restaurant called Midway, before arriving at the Fort. Situated on a hilltop, the Amber Fort has featured in many Bollywood movies. Established nearly 600 years before Jaipur was founded, Amber Fort was at one time the capital of the region.
Next on your itinerary is a visit to Hawa Mahal, the Palace of Winds. Centuries ago, royal ladies would watch street life from the palace without exposing themselves to passersby.
Enjoy a lunch break before heading to the City Palace and Jantar Mantar, the astronomical observatory. The City Palace is an impressive structure that continues to serve as the maharaja’s residence. Limited areas of the palace have been opened for public visits.
Jantar Mantar is a stunning creation of Sawai Jai Singh II, the king who built Jaipur. Its huge instruments are very accurate and when tested in recent times, have shown minimal error.
On the return trip, you’ll stop to visit the Jal Mahal, a minor palace built in the center of a shallow lake.
At around 17:00 you’ll begin the drive back to Delhi, arriving at approximately 22:00. You can stop for dinner either at the Midway restaurant or any of the roadside eateries along the way.
