Description

Explore Kathputli Colony, home to Delhi's eclectic acrobats, singers, dancers, jugglers, and magicians. Join a private tour to witness the artists' resilience and creativity amidst changing times.
For over six decades, a vibrant community of street artists thrived in the heart of India's northern region, nestled near Shadipur station in west Delhi. This enclave, affectionately dubbed Kathputli Colony, housed around 2800 families, each boasting a unique array of talents—from magicians and snake charmers to acrobats, singers, dancers, henna artists, and jugglers. Kathputli's eclectic tapestry served as the muse for acclaimed author Salman Rushdie, who immortalized it in his seminal work, Midnight's Children. The very name "Kathputli" evokes the essence of puppetry in Hindi.

However, in late 2017, the residents of Kathputli faced their worst fears as their beloved neighborhood succumbed to demolition, making way for new developments. This upheaval left many families displaced, grappling with the harsh reality of homelessness.

Amidst this turmoil, Street Tours emerged as a steadfast ally to these vibrant and talented communities, proudly carrying forward their legacy. With great honor, Street Tours invites travelers to embark on a journey through the residential lanes and humble abodes of these artists, where they graciously offer to showcase their remarkable skills. Join us in celebrating the resilience and creativity of Kathputli's residents as they weave their magic and captivate audiences with their artistry.
