Guided tour to a statue carved out of a single block of granite and nestled at 2600 feet above sea level. Learn about the key tenets of Jain religion including compassion for all living things.
We leave Bangalore at 7 am and will head towards Shravanabelagola located 145 KMs away. The route is via Nelmangala, Kunigal and Hirisave, We will have a breakfast halt along the way at Yediyur.
By 10 am we would be at the base of the world’s largest monolith statue. The statue is 58 feet tall and belongs to Gomateswara the son of the first Jain Tirtankara Vrishaba Deva. The climb will take an hour as there are 600 steps. It is worth the climb to explore one one of the best places to visit from Bangalore.
Shravanabelagola is an ancient town with 2000 years of history and cultural heritage. Gomateswara, the subject of the statue, lived an eventful and inspirational life. Our guide will tell his life’s story since birth, renunciation, enlightenment & salvation, and why he continues to inspire millions of people even today.
Other than the statue of Gomateswara, there are figurines of all the 24 Tirtankaras of Jainism. There are also several inscriptions from the period 800-1800 AD. Spectacular views greet you from the top.
Every 12 years a spectacular ceremony called Mahamastakabhisheka is held at Shravanabelagola where the statue is Gomateswara is anointed with turmeric, water, rice, sugarcane juice, sandalwood paste, gold and silver flowers.

Note 600 steps need to be climbed to reach the statue.
As footwear will need to be removed, please carry socks as the steps could be hot.
