Embark on a royal boat ride at Lake Pichola, explore with a local guide, meet 5th-gen sword-makers, and conclude with Udaipur's first craft beer tasting/hi tea. Ideal for mornings and evenings.
ROOPMATI - YOUR EXCLUSIVE BOAT RIDE
Your itinerary starts at a private jetty where you climb aboard a royal boat, a private, heritage boat named after the legendary poet-queen of Mandu. ‘She’ is the perfect vehicle to set sail on one of India’s largest man-made lakes. Created in 1362, Pichola is the glistening azure gem in Udaipur’s crown. As you glide on its sun-dappled waters, Udaipur unravels like a dream; the mighty Aravallis rise on the horizon as you turn a corner while family mansions (havelis), luxury hotels, temples, ancient chabutaras (raised platforms for bird feeding), and Pichola’s iconic waterfronts (ghats) are strung like glowing pearls around Pichola’s neckline. As your eyes take in the pristine your ears will be rapt in the anecdotes narrated by your friendly Strode Guide. Like a gregarious Indian version of a Venetian gondolier ( justifying Udaipur’s well-deserved reputation as the Venice of the East, along with your boatman), he’ll share the most inspiring stories of the sights that you cruise by. From legendary tales of the Taj Lake Palace - a global icon of Indian hospitality and luxury - to the architectural brilliance of Jag Mandir (a floating island palace) and the secrets of Gangaur Ghat, your ride comes with great storytelling perks.
STEP INSIDE SHOPS, TEMPLES, GHATS & HAVELLIS
Your boat will drop you at Hanuman Ghat from where you will enter the old city. Walk parallel to Lake Pichola to explore Udaipur's Old City. Cross the historic Chandpole Gate and head to Jagdish Mandir flanked by a bustling market; a street shopper’s dream. From 1000-year-old silver jewellery to leather artifacts, juttis (footwear), wallets, and macrame bags, this vibrant maze of bylanes has many treasures lurking within them.
Explore Udaipur's charm with Strode Guide: Chandrapole, Ambrai Ghat, Ghanta Ghar, and Gangaur Ghat. Immerse in centuries of culture, culminating in a hidden spot for nature's grandeur and Udaipur's wonders. Cameras at the ready!
MEET LOCAL ARTISAN FROM SIKLIGAR CLAN
Explore the legacy of Rajput warriors at Udaipur's sole handcrafted sword maker's workshop. Meet Santoshji, a skilled artisan from the Sikligar clan, as he unveils the secrets of crafting talwars, Mewari daggers, and Damascus knives. Admire the precision in blade sharpening and scabbard carving. Hold these magnificent weapons, guided by Santoshji in proper handling techniques. Immerse in the rich history and strike a pose, briefly becoming a Rajput warrior.
REVEL IN HIGH TEA / BEER TASTINGS AT UDAI KOTHI
Return to where your tour began at Udai Kothi, a lavish family-owned boutique hotel with the captivating tale of Roopmati and Baz Bahadur. Hear royal stories, admire tikri art, enjoy Mewari hospitality, and end with a house beer at Kalali or a high tea on the terrace.
