According to legend, the queen built this temple in memory of her son, Prince Jagat Singh, who died at a young age. It is named “Jagat Shiromani,” meaning “jewel among temples,” possibly as an homage to the prince and the royal family’s devotion to Krishna. The temple is distinctively Vaishnavite, as it is dedicated to Krishna and Meera Bai, the saint-poetess known for her devotion to Krishna.
