This tour will take you to the Peloponnese, to Ancient Corinth.
We will drive along the coast of Attica to the Corinth Canal.
We will stop at the canal which was cut through the isthmus, the narrow strip of land connecting mainland Greece with the Peloponnese in 1893 to see this amazing achievement of 19th century engineering.
Then we will continue to the site of ancient Corinth, one of the most prosperous cities in the ancient world lying below the imposing hill of Acrocorinth.
We will see the temple of Apollo, one of the oldest temples in Greece, dating from the 6th century BC. Corinth was destroyed by the Romans in 146 BC and was rebuilt as a Roman colony under Julius Caesar about a hundred years later and became again a very rich city.
So, you will explore the ruins of the roman city and see the forum, the bema of St Paul, who spent a year and a half in Corinth, the well preserved Lechaion road which led to the port of the city on the city on the Corinthian gulf, Peirene Fountain and much more including statues and other finds from the site at the local museum.
