Discover the history of the slave trade in Ghana on a 2-day tour from Accra. Visit the Assin Manso Slave River, Elmina Castle, and Cape Coast Castle. Walk along the canopy walkway at Kakum National Park.

On the first day, depart from Accra to the Central Region of Ghana. Visit Assin Manso, the final link in the slavery route from northern Ghana. It was known to have been the largest slave market for merchants supplying slaves to the forts and castles along the coast. The Assin Manso Slave River was the point where the slaves took their last bath before taken into the dungeons in the Castles.

Proceed to Elmina to visit this historic town. Tour the Elmina Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Monument built by the Portuguese in 1482. The castle was the first trading post built on the Gulf of Guinea, making it the oldest European building in existence below the Sahara. Listen to the stories of the infamous slave trade.

On the second day, continue to the Kakum National Park. Walk along the canopy walkway which is made up of seven bridges extending 330m hanging 40m above the forest floor, offering you what is truly a bird’s eye view of the rainforest. There are some mammals but do not expect to see them as they are known to be extremely elusive.

End the day with a stop at the Cape Coast Castle. Built in 1555, Cape Coast Castle served as one of the over 40 Slave Castle and Forts that served as holding place for enslaved people waiting shipment to the Americas. Continue your journey back to Accra.
