Take out your smartphone to explore Celle, marvel at the Celle Castle, one of Celles landmarks and discover the Old Town with its more than 450 half-timbered houses.
The tour begins at Thaerplatz, where you will learn about the history of Germany's oldest "prison". The tour continues to Magnusgraben and the palace park, where you can admire the sculpture of the stallion Wohlklang. In the castle park you will also find an impressive Caucasian winged walnut tree.
The next stop is Celle Palace, one of the most outstanding residences in Germany. Here you can visit the magnificent state apartments and the baroque theatre (You can buy tickets on site.). The tour continues to Fritz-Grasshoff-Gasse and Kalandgasse, the smallest and oldest alley in Celle.
The tour also takes you to the town church of St Mary's, where you can climb the Tower. 235 steps lead to the viewing level at a height of 52 metres. On the Stechbahn, the town's former tournament ground, you will learn more about the history of Celle and the founding of the town.
After you hear the Celle carillon, which plays melodies such as "In die Weite Welt" or "Freude schöner Götterfunken" you have the chance to listen to lanterns, see a hanging toilet and discover other charming places of Celles Old Town and its history.
The tour is a family-friendly 3 kilometres long.
