Description

Narbonne, crossroads of Europe since Antiquity, residence of the Archbishop in the Middle Ages, where he had his Cathedral built. A place of belief and power, where the people of Narbonne meet.
We'll set off to discover where the people of Narbonne have lived since ancient times, on today's Place de l'Hôtel de Ville, the former Palais des Archevêques, whose façade has so much to tell us. We'll then enter the Palace's main courtyard, with its Grand Staircase. We'll then follow in the footsteps of the archbishops to Narbonne Cathedral, a treasure trove of 14th-century Gothic architecture, crossing the cloister where gargoyles tower above us.
Inside the cathedral, we'll appreciate the height of the vaulted ceiling, for which the building is renowned. We'll stop to admire the monumental organ, the 17th-century altarpiece and the 14th-century sculpted altarpiece, a picture book.
We'll end our visit with a stroll along the Promenade des Barques, which leads to the Halles, the emblematic meeting place of the Narbonnais.
