Yes, Luberon is the most famous region of Provence. Yes, you will cross there tourists from all over the world. You can find there many beautiful villages, however the three of them that I’m gonna show you are really interesting because they have each its own style, own atmosphere. This will be your post card day in the iconic Provence! However, if you prefer to discover less visited places and feel more intimate, feel more local atmosphere, I propose another countryside day trip “Authentic villages and Mary Magdalene’s cave”.

We will start by the village of Fontaine-de-Vaucluse with its impressive spring which flows out of the 230 m high cliff. You will find there many souvenir shops, restaurants, you can walk along the beautiful emerald river Sourge. Fontaine-de-Vaucluse inspired a lot of poets seduced by the beauty of the place.

Our next stop will the Sénanqe Abbey with its lavender fields in summer, the most known “post card” landscape from Provence! You will have time there to have a look and take some pictures. Then we will reach one of the most famous villages in all France – Gordes. This perched village is typical of the Provence countryside, nested on the hillside. It will be only the stop for the panoramic picture there.

I prefer you to take your time in Rousillon. This ochre village is really amazing and stands out due to its colours : yellow, orange and red. While strolling around the pretty squares, you will join the top of the village with its panoramic view of the surrounding mountains. You will have free time for lunch in Rousillon.

To discover more about ochre, there is a museum in the center of the village. I can also pick you up to the ochre trail, a walk through an old open-pit ochre quarry. You will find there a lot of information signs about how the site was formed and explored.
