The hill’s history dates back to the 10th or 11th century when the first stronghold was built by the residents of the ancient Estonian county of Revala.
In Estonian folklore, Toompea Hill is said to be the burial mound of the legendary hero Kalev, erected by his grieving wife, Linda. This mythological significance adds to the hill’s cultural importance.
