Description

From the Romans to the Moorish occupation. From the conquest to the maritime travels of the XV century. The destruction and rebuilding after an eartquake, fire and tsunami. The modern day Lisbon.
After picking you up in your lodging, we start on top of the city, to engulf its atmosphere and appreciate its size and disposition.

We come down travelling the sinuous, narrow streets of the old districts, crossing roman, moorish and jewish heritage.

Then we head downtown and walk a little over the cobble stone streets, up again to Chiado square enjoying the scenic Santa Justa Elevator. Perfect place for an overview of the rebuild of the city, after the earthquake of the 18th century.

We head east and visit the newest part of the city, requalified after the EXPO 98, a world fair hosted in Lisbon. We take a lift to the top of Vasco da Gama Tower (146M) and enjoy the fabulous glass rooftop with a 360 degrees view. A little too much for you? Don’t worry, we have an alternative, a round trip cable car, much lower altitude, that will take you back and forth along the river.

We then go to lunch, to enjoy a typical Portuguese meal and wine, codfish maybe, or sardines, seafood… there are so many choices. Vegetarian? No worries we can accommodate all your specific needs.

In the afternoon we head to the western part of the city, the Belém district, home of our famous custard cream tart. Also the place of our Presidential Palace, and of most of the monuments and museums in Lisboa.
We will start by visiting the Maritime Museum to dig on the nautical discoveries of the Portuguese since the XV Century . Precious artifacts, miniature vessels, combat uniforms, works of art, scientific instruments, royal yachts and airplanes… what a mix.

From there we head out to visit the marvelous Basilica of Jerónimos, visiting the tombs of Vasco da Gama, which discovered the maritime way to India, and King Manuel I, who ordered the building of this place.
Across the road, next to the water, we will do an outside visit to Belém Tower, one of the most iconic images of Lisbon, and the Monument of Discoveries, an impressive monument from the 1960s.

Where do you want to finish your afternoon? In a riverside terrace, or a rooftop bar enjoying something fresh? Welcome to the Portuguese lifestyle.
