Description
On my tour through Keitum and along the Wadden Sea, I want to show you the beauty of the island and tell you a little about the history and present of the place.
Keitum: Many of the old houses date back to the 18th century, when whaling was still the main source of income for the island of Sylt. "The green heart of the island" consists of a tangle of small, idyllic alleys. Small boutiques and rustic tea rooms have settled in old houses, often surrounded by picturesque gardens and the typical Frisian walls. In addition, Keitum is known for its artisans. Handmade pieces made of gold are forged here or blown out of glass. If you are on the tracks of the eventful history of the village, you will encounter the Sylt living and living culture of the 18th century in a very lively way in the old Frisian house since 1640 and discover many treasures in the extensive collection of the Sylt Museum. Also go in search of the ancient witnesses of Keitum. The burial mounds Harhoog and Tipkenhoog date back to the Stone Age and are located on the tidal side of the village.
