The Beijing Zoo is located at No. 137 Xizhimen Outer Street, Xicheng District, Beijing, covering an area of approximately 86 hectares, with 8.6 hectares of water. Established in 1906 during the 32nd year of Emperor Guangxu’s reign in the Qing Dynasty, it is one of the earliest zoos open to the public in China and features the most diverse collection of animals. The Beijing Zoo houses and exhibits over 500 species and more than 5,000 animals, as well as over 500 species of marine fish and other aquatic creatures totaling more than 10,000 individuals, including giant pandas, tigers, African lions, and many other rare wildlife species.
One of the zoo's main attractions is the Panda House, home to the beloved giant pandas, an iconic symbol of China. Visitors can observe these gentle creatures in a specially designed habitat that mimics their natural environment, complete with bamboo groves and climbing structures.
