Explore the Ancient Observatory in Beijing, a historic site with ancient astronomical instruments and rich cultural heritage. Learn about China's ancient astronomy and view rare astronomical instruments.
Visit the Ancient Observatory, located at the southwest corner of Jianguomen Bridge. Known for its well-preserved architecture, exquisite instruments, and historical significance, the observatory played a key role in cultural exchanges between East and West.
In the Ming era, it was called the "Star Observing Platform," equipped with large instruments like the Armillary Sphere, Celestial Globe, and Gnomon. During the Qing Dynasty, it was renamed "Observatory," and additional European-style bronze astronomical instruments were added during the reigns of Emperors Kangxi and Qianlong.
These instruments not only served as functional tools for astronomical observation but are also invaluable historical artifacts.
