Description
Explore Guangzhou in depth through the subway and Citywalk, where you will enter Guangzhou's most iconic historic districts and experience the city's multiculturalism and longstanding traditions.
Your guide will be waiting for you at the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall MTR Station at 9:30 a.m. Our day tour begins at the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, known as the “Pearl of Lingnan Architecture”, which was built by the Chen Clan during the Qing Dynasty as a tribute to their ancestors. You will appreciate the exquisite wood carvings, stone carvings, brick carvings and ceramic art, and experience the traditional family culture and craft aesthetics of the Lingnan region. The Chen Family Ancestral Hall is not only a shrine, but also a museum of culture, history and art. We will then take the subway to Thirteen Houses Museum or Guangdong Customs Museum (Mon). Thirteen Houses was once the center of China's foreign trade during the Qing Dynasty and an important commercial area in Guangzhou. The museum showcases the history of Guangzhou's trade prosperity during the “Maritime Silk Road” period, and you will learn about Guangzhou's commercial exchanges with the rest of the world, as well as the business history of Guangzhou merchants. Exhibits include ancient trade artifacts, historical photographs and foreign trade goods, taking you on a journey into the most glorious commercial era in Guangzhou's history.
Next, we will walk to Shamian. Shamian is a historically protected area in Guangzhou that retains a large number of European-style buildings and was once a foreign concession area. Strolling through this tree-lined neighborhood, you can admire the East-meets-West architectural style, or take a break at a café or restaurant to soak up the serene and laid-back atmosphere of this area.
Finally, we will take you to Wing Ching Fong, a cultural and creative district that blends tradition and modernity, just about 10 minutes away from Shamian. Here, the old neighborhood has been transformed with artistic and modern trends, and you can find a wide range of handicrafts, independent design brands and creative small stores. Stroll along this ancient street and experience the unique charm of Guangzhou's blend of modernity and tradition.
