Exploring a stilted fishing village on Tonle Sap Lake, visiting a mangrove forest, and observing local life and markets, concluding with a return to your hotel by early afternoon or late evening.
Overviews:
Travel 34 km away from Siem Reap town, you can explore the remarkable stilted village of Kampong Phluk on the Tonle Sap Lake, where the houses are built five meters above dry ground to account for the rise and fall of the lake’s waters. This unique architecture has been nicknamed “bamboo skyscrapers”. This other-worldly village looks like a film set during the wet season months from July to November and can be explored by paddle boats. Viewing sunset reflecting from the surface of the lake is one of the most memorable experiences that you should not miss. There are several local homestays in the village and some floating souvenir shops and restaurants.
Visit Rolous Market one of the most traditional local markets in the Siem Reap area, Rolous Market is the hub for this small town in Prasat Bakong District. It is at its most colourful in the morning when lots of locals come here to buy fresh fruit and vegetables. Venture to the back of the market beyond the river where the streets are lined with fresh produce. It is a good experience for photographers as long as you remember to ask permission to take pictures of individual sellers.
