For those that just want a quick and easy look at the floating village near Siem Reap, the Tonle Sap lake is quite unique as the lake changes direction twice per year, in the dry season the lake empties out into the south china sea through Vietnam Delta, however in the wet season the delta swells and pushes the water north into the Tonle Sap lake. This causes the Tonle Sap to vary in depth and area, the depth at the start of the wet season is approximately only 1.5 meters but during the height of the wet season, raises to over 10 meters deep, the forests fill up quickly and the floating villages move in as the water raises.
Its a unique feature of the lake and life revolves around this, the actual area goes from 2700 squares kilometers to over 12000 squares km as a result. The Tonle Sap lake is the largest fresh water lake in Southeast Asia and the richest fishing lake in the world. The trip to the lake is some 14 kilometers, we pick you up at your Hotel/Guesthouse/Hostel etc. in our air-conditioned minivan/car and make two stops along the way to the lake, firstly at the lotus flower farm, a flower that is deeply entwined in the Buddhist culture, where you can take pictures and even buy the lotus seeds, a Cambodian snack, to eat (please note that deepening on the time of year the view of the lotus and rice fields will change).
You will travel past many rice paddies along the way, and see the magnificent Cambodian countryside. Then we get to the entry to the river we have private boats waiting for you to take you to and around the floating village. On your return our ac vehicle will be waiting to transfer you back to your Hotel/Guesthouse/hostel etc.
