Detailed Itinerary
Day
Head out in the morning at around 08:00 for the south gate of Angkor Thom. Visit the temples in the Angkor Thom area such as Bayon, Bapoun and the Elephant Terrace. Afterwards you’ll continue on to visit the Ta Promh jungle temple, built by King Jayavarman VII (1181-1218) and dedicated to his mother. Angelina Jolie was filmed at this site for the movie Tomb Raider. Stop for lunch at a local restaurant.
After lunch the tour continues to the Angkor Wat temple. Angkor Wat was built by King Suryavarman II (1113-1150) and dedicated to the god Vishnu. At the end of the day you’ll enjoy a buffet dinner and an apsara dancing show at a Siem Reap restaurant. After dinner you’ll be transferred back to your hotel in Siem Reap.
Day 2
At 08:00 your guide will take you to see the Beng Mealea temple, built in a distinctly Angkor Wat style. Beng Melea actually preceded Angkor Wat and may have served as the prototype for its construction. When the temple was in active use the walls may have been painted or covered with frescoes. In its time, Beng Melea was located at the crossroads of several major roads that ran to Angkor, Koh Ker and Preah Vihear. Take a break for lunch at a local restaurant.
Your tour ends with a visit to the temples in the Roluos group, including Preah Ko, Bakong and Lolei. The temples date from the early Angkor Period (802-1431). Preah Ko temple was built by King Indravarman I in 879, Bakong was built in 881, and Lolei was built by king Yasovarman I in 893.
You’ll be transferred back to the hotel at the end of the tour.
