Description
Experience Angkor's peak temples: gaze upon Angkor Wat's magnificence, then explore Angkor Thom housing Bayon and more, float amongst Ta Prohm's moss-cloaked temples.
You will be met and greeted by your guide and driver for the day in your hotel lobby after breakfast, and departing to visit the Mother Temple of Angkor Wat.
Your private guide will then accompany you inside the temple complex, providing expert commentary on the history, architecture, artwork and religious significance as you explore. This 12th century temple is thought to be the largest religious structure in the world. This temple epitomizes symbolism and symmetry and is a source of great pride for all Khmers. You will continue by deciphering the mysteries of the bas-reliefs depicting Hindu mythology and the glory of the Khmer empire.
Refueled and re-energized, the tour continues with a visit to the neighboring walled city of Angkor Thom and its enigmatic Bayon temple. First up is the mysterious Bayon temple at its center, with its towers adorned by over 200 immense stone faces emanating an eerie ambience. Your guide will provide insights into this 12th century temple's symbolic carvings and architecture. We'll then spend time wandering the causeways of the Terrace of the Elephants and Terrace of Leper King, taking in the scale of what must have been grand processions. Our touring within Angkor Thom also includes a visit to Baphuon temple, located just north of Bayon. Once one of Angkor's tallest structures, we'll marvel at its now-collapsed condition while learning of past restoration efforts.
Enjoy lunch at local restaurant at your own expense before heading to Ta Prohm temple. As you enter its boundaries, towering root-bound corridors greet you, evoking a memorable sense of entering an ancient jungle sanctuary. Unlike other restored temples, Ta Prohm has been left largely as it was discovered in the 19th century, suffocating in the dense embrace of vivid green vegetation. Mighty tree roots now swallow whole courtyards and encircle monolithic stones, a reminder of nature's formidable ability to reclaim what was once manmade. Your guide will share the site's history and stories of early Western explorers while leading you on a sensory journey amid this evocative fusion of architecture and nature.
Wrapping up your guided explorations by late afternoon, you will be drop off at your hotel around 15:00-16:00
