Embark on a 3-day trek through the largest humid desert in the world, the Lençóis Maranhenses. Explore the desert's lagoons, dunes, and beaches, and watch the sunset over the sand dunes.
Day 1: Barreirinhas to Baixa Grande
Depart from Barreirinhas and take a boat tour along the Rio Preguiças. Stop at Vassouras, a support point, and see the Macaquinhos and lagoons. Continue to the dunes known as the Little Lençóis and Mandacaru, where you can climb the 160 steps of the Farol Lençóis for panoramic views of the sea, the river, and the Grandes and Little Lençóis.
Next, visit the beach of Caburé, a sand peninsula with the sea on one side and the river on the other. Stop for lunch in the village of Atins before taking a 4x4 to the starting point of the walk. Trek 8 kilometers to Baixa Grande and stay overnight.
Day 2: Baixa Grande to Queimada dos Britos
Wake up early and start the 13-kilometer walk to Queimada dos Britos. Stop at the lagoons along the way and have lunch upon arrival. In the afternoon, visit more lagoons and watch the sunset before spending the night in Queimada dos Britos.
Day 3: Queimada dos Britos to Santo Amaro
Wake up at 2:30 AM and start the 18-kilometer walk to Betânia. Stop for the sunrise and visit Lagoa do Junco. Finish the walk in Betânia and have lunch before taking a vehicle to visit a lagoon and watch the sunset. Finally, transfer to Santo Amaro and then back to Barreirinhas.
