Description
Observing the black lion tamarin in the wild.
Meet one of the most endangered primates on the planet.
We set off from São Paulo at 08:00 am for Fazenda Garibaldi in the town of Buri. The journey takes approximately 03:30 hours, so we arrive in the city at around 11:30 am. We stop for lunch at the Quintal de Minas restaurant and around 12:30 am, we head to the farm where we will observe the black lion tamarin (Leontopithecus chrysopygus).
We enter the forest with our guide in search of the animals and after meeting them we remain with them until 05:00 pm. We followed the family of marmosets through the forest for several hours, having very close contact with the animals, who are used to human presence and don't see us as a threat.
The forest where they occur is a riparian forest, on the banks of the Apiaí-guaçu River. The trails are flat and don't require much physical preparation, so it can be considered a light hike.
