Description
Enjoy 4 days in the Salar de Uyuni, starting and ending in "San Pedro de Atacama".
Embark on an unforgettable journey from its extensive salt mirrors to the island of giant cactus.
Start: The trip begins on day 1 at 07:00 at the hotel in San Pedro de Atacama.
End: Day 4 concludes at 13:00 at the center or bus terminal in San Pedro de Atacama. It is suggested to consider possible changes in the schedule due to weather conditions or unforeseen events, advising to plan the departure from San Pedro de Atacama for the day after the original end date of the tour.
Day 1: We will start by picking you up at the hotel and depart by minibus to the border with Bolivia. After border formalities, we will change to a 4x4. We will explore the Bolivian altiplano, visiting Laguna Blanca, Laguna Verde, the Salvador Dali desert, the Polques hot springs (with time for a swim), and the Sol de Mañana geysers. We will conclude at Laguna Colorada, a flamingo sanctuary, and stay at the Villamar refuge.
Day 2: After enjoying breakfast, we will set out on our way to Tomás Lakha, where you will have the opportunity to admire pre-Inca cave paintings. We will continue exploring Italia Perdida, a fascinating place where the volcanic rock has acquired the appearance of an abandoned city. Then, we will head to the picturesque Vinto and Catal lagoons, offering you the chance to hike and observe the characteristic fauna of the Bolivian Altiplano. Later, we will explore the Anaconda and Sora canyons, before heading to the impressive Chiguana salt flat. We will conclude our day arriving at Colcha K, where you will spend the second night in our lodging.
Day 3: At dawn, we will begin our last leg of the tour with the breathtaking view of the sunrise over the Salar de Uyuni. After this unique experience, we will head to Incahuasi Island, a limestone rock formation in the center of the salt flat that we will explore to get another perspective of the vast salt landscape. We will continue our journey to the Salt Museum and the town of Colchani, finally leaving the salt flat. In Uyuni, we will say goodbye to our guide and driver, who accompanied us during the previous three days. We will have free time to have lunch and explore the town, before meeting our new driver for the return trip, with a stop in Villamar for dinner and rest.
Day 4: We will start the day getting up early to start our return trip and reach the border between Chile and Bolivia. After completing the necessary formalities, we will change again to a minibus to return to San Pedro de Atacama, concluding our fascinating tour of the Salar de Uyuni.
Altiplanic winter
During the months of January to April, the climatic phenomenon known as altiplanic winter, a period of rain in the central Andes, takes place. Because of this, it is possible that the itinerary described may be modified as follows:
The second night is in a hostel in Uyuni.
We do not visit Incahuasi Island, where there is a greater concentration of water during the rainy season.
