Description
Take the chance to visit Tsaghkadzor, one of the most visited resort cities of Armenia. Whilst touring this city (whose name literally translates to "canyon of flowers"), you will also explore Kecharis, a monastic complex of the 11th century.
The City of Tsaghkadzor is a small Olympic town approximately an hour’s drive away from Yerevan. It is also called "Armenian Switzerland", as it is surrounded by dense mountain forests. The name of the city is referred to as “the gorge of flowers” since it is blooming with a variety of beautiful plants. According to the legend, these flowers were torn from the Pahlavuni princess’ garden and scattered over the land by the wind.
This city is also home to the 11th-century monastic complex of Kecharis, which was especially built by the royals to honor the 1,000th anniversary of Jesus Christ. Tsaghkadzor is also popular for its fresh air, which is known to have indisputable health benefits. This is the main reason why the Olympic training grounds have been built in this location since the Soviet period, providing training opportunities for athletes from all over the globe after renovation. Additionally, Tsakhkadzor has become Armenia’s ski center during the winter months.
