Category:
Country: Armenia
Duration:
13:00 hours
Description
This activity blends culture and cuisine with a distillery visit, a Goshavank Monastery tour, and an off-road journey to an alpine meadow for a locally-prepared dinner by cattle herders.
Armenia’s northern Tavush region is well-known for its lush green forests, medieval monasteries nestled among towering mountains, and fresh local foods and spirits. This 1-day adventure combines all this, with transportation from Yerevan and professional guide services included
First, you’ll head to a local fruit spirit distillery, where you’ll get to know how local high-quality fruit spirits, called oghi in Armenian, are distilled, and get to taste a range of them, including wild plum, quince, grape, fig, and a special mix made of different types of local pears and apples. After your tasting, you’ll sit down for a delicious meal that will be paired perfectly with the spirits. After lunch, you’ll head to the 12th century monastic complex of Goshavank, set among the dramatic forested mountains of Dilijan National Park. After discovering the secrets of this monastery with your local guide, you’ll continue further north to the city of Berd, where you’ll hop onto off-road vehicles for a jeeping excursion into the mountains. Your destination is the Nomadic Kitchen, where local cattle herders will prepare an authentic, 3-course dinner in the alpine meadow where they keep their herd and make high-quality cheese and other dairy products. After savouring your meal, getting to know your hosts’ way of life, and taking in the views, you’ll begin your journey back to Yerevan, glad you chose to discover this relatively unknown corner of Armenia.
