Description
A classic Palatinate round tour with a visit to Trifels Castle. On the Annweiler Castle Trail, we hike along narrow forest paths, impressive sandstone cliffs to the famous Trifels Castle.
We meet at 10am at the train station near the historic old town of Annweiler and start the tour with a short walk through the old town and the tanners' quarter.
We then walk up Burgstraße along the Kurpark to the Windhof. Here we walk along shady forest paths past the Scharfenberg/Münz castle ruins and the imposing sandstone climbing rocks. I am always impressed by the first view of Trifels Castle, which appears like a mirage in the background.
Now it's a steep climb up to the castle and we take the time to visit it. The view from the keep is breathtaking with panoramic views over the Palatinate Forest and the Rhine plain.
Back in Annweiler, we round off the tour with a final drink. (optional)
