The Beijing Confucius Temple was a site for worshipping Confucius during the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties of ancient China. The temple faces south, with an ancient architectural area of approximately 7,400 square meters. The main buildings are arranged symmetrically along a central axis in the traditional Chinese layout, with three courtyards. The structures on the central axis from south to north include the Gate of the First Teacher, Dacheng Gate, Dacheng Hall, Chongsheng Gate, and Chongsheng Shrine, all topped with yellow glazed tiles.
In the 32nd year of Emperor Guangxu’s reign (1906), the Beijing Confucius Temple underwent a large-scale renovation, which was completed in the fifth year of the Republic of China (1916). This renovation established the temple's current scale and layout. The stele inscribed with the names of successful imperial examination candidates at the Confucius Temple is an important document for studying the ancient Chinese imperial examination system.
With over 700 years of historical and cultural accumulation, the temple’s preserved artifacts have become essential materials and physical evidence for research on ancient Chinese examinations, Confucianism, architectural styles, and cultural connotations.
