Description
Great Ocean Road is one of the most scenic drives in the world and embodies everything you could hope for from an Australian road trip where 12 Apostles at the end would be an absolute surprise!
Although we may be biased, we think that the Great Ocean Road is one of the most scenic drives in the world. This 243km stretch of road—just a one-and-a-half-hour drive from Melbourne CBD— embodies everything you could hope for from an Australian road trip: picturesque coastline, rugged cliffs overlooking crashing surf, deserted white sand beaches, and ancient rainforest. And around each corner is a new, breathtaking view over the Southern Ocean.
At the start of the Great Ocean Road, we’ll cruise along Surf Coast Bay with roaring waves on our left and lush, green mountains to our right. We’ll take in the storied sites that this road trip is famous for. Explore the quaint seaside town of Lorne renowned for its café and surf culture. Keep watch for colourful native birds and koalas on a walk in Kennett River. We’ll stop for lunch at Apollo Bay, a coastal town renowned for its seafood that sits at the edge of the rainforest.
After we’ve filled up with a tasty meal, we’ll wind our way through Maits Rest Rainforest, one of the oldest and purest rainforests in the world and take a walk among looming mountain ash trees. Our final stop for the day is a visit to the Twelve Apostles. These towering limestone structures line the coast and offer views over the picturesque Lorch Ard Gorge. After a day of adventures, relax on our three-hour drive back to Melbourne.
