Did you know it ?
Under Louis XIV, Dinant was French. Vauban decided to modify the building, and the king installed his court in 1692. Between 1818 and 1821, modifications were made by the Nearlanders, which can still be seen today.
During the First World War, the French armed the fort to defend the neutrality of Belgium and prevent the Germans from crossing the Dinant bridge that connects Cologne to Paris.
