A journey to the falls will leave you in awe.
While the main attraction of Livingstone is Victoria Falls, if you are spending more than a day in Livingstone, you will certainly find plenty of other options. The township of Livingstone, Zambia, is located just 11km away from the stunning Victoria Falls, which draws tourists in for a day of wonders of nature. Livingstone City Zambia is the location of the Victoria Falls, located on the Zambian side -- Devils Pool is the most popular place. To this day, Livingstone, Zambia, with its internationally renowned Victoria Falls and the Zambezi river, is my happy place, where I often stay in-between tours.
Both Livingstone in Zambia and the world-famous Victoria Falls have nice little souvenir markets right out of the falls entrance selling things like wood carvings, jewellery, paintings, clothes...normal things that you will find anywhere else in Africa, though you may sometimes find some things made locally. The border with Botswana is about 45 minutes away from both Livingstone in Zambia and Vic Falls, so a lot of people opt for a day or a multi-night tour of the Chobe National Park. Chobe National Park is in northern part of Botswana, on the Zambia-Namibia border, and is one more one of the most popular things to do in Livingstone.
There are about 120,000 elephants in Chobe National Park, and the animals all head out into the Zambezi River to wash. In dry season, the level of the Zambezi falls a fair amount, and you can go down into the river up to the Devils Pool, where you can watch from the side and go swimming - of course, with a guide. The Devil’s Pool is a natural swimming pool created through erosion over time, but the unique thing about the Devils Pool is that on the edge of the waterfall is a cliff-like drop, and the water is not that deep.
In the peak rainy season, over five hundred million cubic metres of water per minute rushes over the lip of Victoria Falls, plummeting down the canyon below... Columns of spray can be seen for miles, which is why it is locally called Mosi-oa-Tunya, The Smoke That Thunders. The flight circles above The Victoria Falls high above four times, then passes over the Batoka Gorge, circles around the falls a final time, then returns above Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park to take in views of the wild animals. To get across to Livingstone from Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, you just must get a taxi or hike up to Victoria Falls Bridge.
