Charming castles

Germany is full of charming castles that are worth seeing, and one is Heidelberg Palace. Most castles in Germany have been converted to museums, but Hohenzollern Castle is still the home of royalty. Today, the Schloss houses the Museum of Deutscher Orden, the city’s history, the beginnings of the Stone Age, and much more.

You could spend an entire afternoon walking around the paths of an overgrown garden that is now mainly wooded, or having lunch at Nebelhöhle, which has views over Baden-Wurttemberg’s capital city. Built atop the Wurttemberg, the views over the city are superb.

Heidelberg is a romantic university town, right under Mannheim, and highlights include the Heidelberg Castle and Alte Brücke, which overlooks the Neckar river. Freiburg in Baden-Wurttemberg is a small city nested on the base of a hillside along the Neckar river. Freiburg in Baden-Wurttemberg, a Black Forest city, is a pretty city with a cathedral, a daily market, and mountains in the vicinity.

Fairy-tale castles

Located in the South-West of the country, it is a mixture of charming cities, fairy-tale castles, gorgeous gardens and nature areas, the Black Forest covering large parts of the state. Baden-Wurttemberg is also far more rural and pastoral than Central and Northern Germany; this makes it a popular destination to visit the natural health resorts that have purported healing properties, or to take a longer hiking trip through its many old-growth forests. Its internationally renowned Black Forest and celebrated, romantic town of Heidelberg are top travel destinations in Germany and Central Europe, but there is plenty more to see.

The area surrounding the world-famous Schwartzwald is the core of historical Baden, featuring Kurorts like Baden-Baden, and a rich history dating to the beginning of the Middle Ages, as illustrated by the university town of Freiburg.

For the cultural lovers, the large cities and the traditional villages have a lot of museums, palaces, and historic centres. Visiting any one of these is one of the best things to do in cities, and this destination is near to other impressive attractions, making for an easy trip. The German Pharmacological Museum Heidelberg, Casemates, and Visitor Center are also places worth exploring in the grounds of the castle.

Along the romantic river

Located on a steep cliffside overlooking the Neckar river, Lichtenstein Castle is also known as the fairy-tale castle of Wurttemberg. The Palace of Karlsruhe is a museum and palace built between 1715 and 1718 under the supervision and with the request of the Count Charles III Wilhelm of Baden-Durlach. The lovely Pforzheim Park is in the densely forested area of the Hagenschies, at the southern edge of Heidelberg.
