Tirana is one of the most historical and beautiful cities in the Balkans.
There are many fun things to do that will make Tirana worth your time and money. While Radiobar is a smaller museum, and you can see it in around 30 minutes or an hour, the National History Museum (the building under that huge, socialist-realist mosaic on Skanderbeg Square) is worth visiting as well, for a glimpse into Albania’s pre-communist history, something visitors to the city all too often overlook. Radio Bar is located just steps away from Skanderbeg Square and is one of the best places to buy in Tirana.
Skanderbeg Square is a big area, surrounded by several tourist attractions, making Skanderbeg Square one of the best places to begin your trip to Tirana. The plaza is located directly next to the main square, so it is ideal if you are coming to explore the capital by walking, since most things to do in Tirana are walking distances. The main square of the downtown, Skanderbeg Square, is a big outdoor area that is home to a lot of the best places to see in Tirana.
Wilson Square is surrounded by the National History Museum on one side, on the other by the Palace of Culture, Ethem Bey Mosque, and the Clock Tower of Tirana, and the latter on the last side by the numerous Albanian ministries and the Park.
Tirana is also getting its share of historical landmarks, like the Ethem Bey Mosque and Clock Tower, Communist architecture, and the central Skanderberg Square. Tirana’s Pyramid was once Enver Hoxha museum, but it has now been turned into a congress centre. Around the square, you can see a lot of touristic sites such as National History Museum, Ethem Bey Mosque, the Clock Tower, the National Opera & Ballet Theatre, National Bank, the Mayor’s Office, and ministries such as Infrastructure, Agriculture, Economy, and Energy. Around Skanderbeg Square, you will find major attractions in Tirana such as the National Historical Museum, the Palace of Culture, the Ethem Bey Mosque, the Clock Tower, the National Library, and the different ministries.
Perhaps one of the most unique things to see in Tirana is the pyramid, which is the main example of Brutalist architecture which has been dominating the skyline for decades. The Tirana Clock Tower is worth visiting, and seeing Tirana lit up at night while enjoying a drink is a nice way to pass an hour or so. One of the best things to do in the capital city of Albania is to spend the afternoon on the central plaza in Albania’s capital city, just walking through Tirana’s downtown area.
The Great Park is one of the best things to do in the Albanian capital if you are looking for somewhere to chill out with the family. One of the best places to go to on a sunny day in Tirana is the Grand Park, otherwise known as Artificial Lake. Along with beautiful views over the city, and being the location of the Royal Palace, the Grand Park has a botanical garden, woodland paths, swimming pool, petting zoo, and play areas, making it one of the fun things to do in Tirana with kids.
