1 Hour Scenic drive to Selcuk. Today, all the important historical and religious places We will visit are located in Selçuk. The name of the city is Selcuk, but we can also call it the modern city of Ephesus.
Our first stop will be The House of the Virgin Mary. After a scenic drive of approximately 8 km towards the hills of Bülbül Mountain, we come to the point where the house of The Virgin Mary is located. You can become a pilgrim today. As you walk among the trees, you will feel the positive energy, spirituality, and presence of the creator in the air.
According to the dominant Christian tradition, Mary was brought to Ephesus by the Apostle John after the resurrection of Jesus and spent her final years of rest there. This is based mainly on the traditional belief that St. John came to Ephesus and the Gospel statement that Jesus entrusted him to John's care (John 19:26-27). Saint John and the Virgin Mary left Jerusalem. And they went to Asia Minor (today's Türkiye). He settled on this hill near Ephesus. This is the house where Our Lady spent her last days. The house of the Virgin Mary resembles a chapel. Christians and Muslims fill this holy place every day of the year.
Inside the house, there is a small statue of the Virgin Mary made of bronze, but the statue does not have arms, because the entire statue is made of bronze, but its arms are made of white marble and may have been broken. In the other room of the house, the spring boiling from the ground flows from the fountains located a little below. You can drink this water and gift this holy water to your loved ones. Spending 1 hr in the house, then drive 10 minutes to Ephesus. During Ephesus visit, we will walk downhill at the Upper Gate to the town's port, where our vehicle will await us. The Celsus Library, Council Chamber, Trajan's Fountain, and Hadrian's Temple are essential works from the Roman Period, and we will visit them along the way. We end our Ephesus tour by visiting the Grand Theatre, where St. Paul preached, was the largest of antiquity, with a capacity of 24 000 seats. Leaving this superb place that smells of history behind us, we set out for the district of Selçuk for lunch. In the afternoon, we will have the opportunity to visit the ruins of the Temple of Artemis, This outstanding temple was built in honor of the Greek Goddess of hunting, wild nature, and fertility, deemed as one of the Seven wonders of the ancient world. The temple of Artemis used to be the largest marble temple in the ancient Greek world since it was four times as big as the Parthenon in Athens, Greece. The temple served as both a marketplace and a religious institution. Offerings by thousands of pilgrims each year enable the temple to grow so wealthy that it became the world`s first bank.
At the end of the tour, we will drive back to Izmir. It will take about 1 hour.
