Arusha: 4-Day Mount Meru Climbing Adventure

Embark on a 4-day trek to the summit of Mount Meru, one of Africa's highest and most beautiful volcanoes. Enjoy stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the Momella Lakes.
Climb Mount Meru, one of Africa’s highest and most beautiful volcanoes, on a 4-day trek. Pass through parkland, montane forest, a giant heather zone, and moorland. Finally, reach the summit and take in stunning views of the Ash Cone and Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Day 1:

Start your adventure with a drive from Arusha to Momella Gate. Once at the gate, finish all the procedures and depart for the trek. The trek takes you through places from where you can catch breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the renowned Momella Lakes. Encounter wildlife like bushbucks, cape buffaloes, giraffes, and warthogs. Continue a short distance until you reach the Miriakamba Hut.

Day 2:

Trek through the steep path along the ridge of the Saddle. On the way, witness the stunning Meru Crater, the Ash Cone, and Little Meru. There are chances of encountering wildlife like cape buffaloes and the black and white colobus monkey. End the trek up at Saddle Hut. Once you have settled at the camp, set off on a short trek to Little Meru (3810m) for acclimatization purposes and return to Saddle Hut.

Day 3:

Wake up just after midnight and have a light meal to keep your energies high. Once done with the meal, start the final ascent to Socialist Peak. This ascent will be steep and you will be making your way through gravel and rocky cliffs. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek. Once at the summit, enjoy the magnificent views of the Meru Crater and the Ash Cone. From the summit, begin the descent by continuing straight down to the Miriakamba Hut.

Day 4:

After breakfast, continue the descent down to the Momella Gate. Change the route and take the southern route down, passing through the astonishing Fig Tree Arch. A vehicle will be waiting for you at Momella Gate to drive you back to your hotel in Arusha.
