Old Town - part of the "Śródmieście" district of Gdańsk. This is the oldest area of the city.
The Old Town received a city charter in 1236, was granted city rights again before 1263, and was degraded in 1308.
The historic urban fabric was destroyed as a result of World War II. The area is confused with the nearby Main Town, where most of Gdańsk's monuments are located. The Old Town has a service and residential character.
The astronomer Jan Heweliusz lived and worked in the Old Town.
In 1959, in ul. Garncarska club "Rudy Kot", the first rock and roll concert in Poland took place.
