Puerto Maldonado: 4D adventure through the Amazon rainforest

Discover the Amazon Rainforest on a 4-day tour from Puerto Maldonado. Explore the Tambopata National Reserve, Lake Sandoval and the Madre de Dios River.
Day 1: Welcome to Tambopata
Travelers will be picked up at the airport or bus station and taken to the lodge. Drive 25 minutes through the town of Puerto Maldonado. On the way, pass through a small community, where you can see many parrots, macaws, and later parrots.

After a short break, take a 1-hour introductory walk through the rainforest, guided by an expert local guide who will take you along the trails to see a variety of trees that can be over five hundred years old. At the same time, observe some species of wild animals such as toucans, orioles, parrots, monkeys, snakes, butterflies, etc.

Day 2: Sandoval Lake (Tambopata National Reserve)
Take a long boat ride of approximately 1:20 minutes to the entrance of Sandoval Lake. After the ranger's checkpoint, walk 3 kilometers (approx. 2 miles) to Sandoval Lake (piranha habitat), one of the largest in the Tambopata National Reserve.

After the pleasant walk, take a rowboat to navigate the lake to see many different species of birds and monkeys (Hoatzin cormorant, jacanas, puma, herons, eagles, howler monkey, squirrel monkey, black capuchin, marmosets and sloths).

You may meet the family of giant river otters (almost 2 meters long) that are in danger of extinction and the largest recorded caiman of more than 4 meters long.

When night falls, take your flashlights to start the excursion through the jungle, in search of animals, insects and birds. Find nocturnal monkeys, frogs, large tarantulas, rodents, spiders, owls, fireflies, snakes or vipers.

Day 3: Parrot Clay Lick and Sunrise View
Get ready to enjoy a festival (show) of different types of parrots that live in this Amazon region. Board and leave by land or river approximately 1 hour from the lodge.

Appreciate the sunrise and be able to hear the noise of insects and the songs of Amazonian birds. For bird lovers, it is a great festival, since they can only be seen in the Amazon.

Upon arrival, observe a large number of parrots gathered as every morning on the clay wall, ready to continue their diet. The minerals that the parrots eat contain substances useful for their nutrition and detoxification.

After eating, take a short break and head to a 30-meter tower to equip yourself with your safety equipment and begin your extreme adventure activities.

Do the zip line, one of the most requested activities due to the high adrenaline experienced when making the round trip.

Day 4: The Monkey House
Sail 30 minutes down the Tambopata River to reach the monkey house, where you will see 4 types of monkeys: squirrel monkey, howler monkey and spider monkey. Touch them and take photos with them, also feed them and play with them.

Within this tour of the Madre de Dios River, you will find a ceticos forest where 3-toed sloths live and you can find between 2 and 5 wild sloths.

Enjoy a good continental breakfast before returning to the city and ending the tour.
