Kenya: 6-Day Rhino Conservation Safari

Embark on a 6-day safari to explore the Solio Ranch, Aberdare Mountains, and Ol Pejeta Conservancy. See the last two surviving Northern white rhinos and the rare giant forest hog.
Embark on a 6-day safari to Solio Ranch, home to more than 250 white rhinos and about 80 black rhinos. Visit the Aberdare Mountains, where the rare giant forest hog lives, and take a walk with a wild giraffe herd. Go on a safari in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, home to the last two surviving Northern white rhino females.

Day 1:
After breakfast, embark on your safari heading to the central highlands of Kenya. Enjoy the landscape along the way as you drive through pineapple plantations to coffee and tea farms. On a clear morning, you may also be lucky to sight the snow-capped Mt. Kenya, the second highest mountain in Africa. Arrive in good time for your lunch after which you'll enjoy an afternoon bird walk as you marvel at the wildlife around.

Day 2:
The privately managed conservation reserve has been dedicated to protecting white and black rhinos for decades. Solio Ranch is home to more than 250 white rhinos and about 80 black rhinos, more than 100 lions, buffalo herds, waterbuck, giraffes, impala herds, and unique bird life. In addition, the park's different habitats result in a diversity of species. On a full-day safari, you will be able to discover a wide variety of wildlife.

Day 3:
On this day, visit the mountain side forest of the Aberdare National Park. The park boasts of a thick rainforest, spectacular waterfalls, and moorland high up the mountain. You will also be lucky to see elephants feeding in the bushes. It is not easy to find, but it is even more impressive if you spot an African giant forest hog in the thicket. You will be able to walk down the trails to catch a closer glimpse of the waterfalls. If you are lucky you will also see rhinos and a leopard.

Day 4:
After breakfast, check out and proceed on a short drive to Ol Pejeta Conservancy– the home of the last two surviving Northern white rhinos. In addition to the rhinoceros conservation project, there is also a project on chimpanzees here. Enjoy a game drive as you head to your camp. After lunch, relax until the afternoon when you set out for your game drive to discover the chimpanzees in their sanctuary. If you're lucky, you'll see other members of the Big Five today.

Day 5:
Spend the full day exploring Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Olpejeta is a privately owned conservancy, overlooking the peaks of Mount Kenya. The conservancy has a great number of wildlife including all the big five animals (elephant, rhino, lion, cheetah, and buffalo) among other game. The conservancy also has a special sanctuary that shelters several the rare and endangered species including black rhino, Gravy's zebra, the Jackson's hartebeest, and Chimpanzees. The Chimpanzee sanctuary is the only one in Kenya. It is a home for orphaned and abused chimpanzees, rehabilitating them to help them learn to live by themselves as in their habitat. Later have dinner and overnight at the camp.

Day 6:
After breakfast, bid farewell to the camp staff and return to Nairobi with a drop off at the Nairobi hotel or Airport.
