Fatehpur Sikri was only inhabited for less than 20 years due to the scarcity of water in the area. The city built by order of the Mughal emperor Akbar in the 16th century fell into oblivion. Its impressive monumental legacy, however, has survived to the present day.

We'll go back in time to the 9th century to talk about the origins of this huge water reservoir that has become one of the most famous monuments in India. You'll also learn why this area was chosen to house the deepest stepwell in the country.
