Rio’s aerial tramway system, taking visitors to the top of Sugarloaf, has been around for more than 100 years. In its early days the Sugarloaf cable car added an important feature to Brazilian tourism and has since become world famous.
Today, the sight of the constant come and go of the bondinho or cable car is part of the city’s landscape. Take it to the top and enjoy the 360-degree view of the city. Admire the beaches of Copacabana, Ipanema, and Flamengo, from above.
Marvel at the views of the Tijuca Forest and Corcovado, Guanabara Bay, the cove of Botafogo, the city center, Ilha do Governador, the Rio-Niterói bridge and the Serra do Mar, where the Dedo de Deus peak is located.
The trip by cable car is just 3 minutes from Praia Vermelha to Morro da Urca and another 3 minutes from Morro da Urca to the top of Sugarloaf.
